Latest progress in negotiations on the world's first international convention to end plastic pollution

11Month28Day, near.200Countries came to Uruguay for a5Day of the meeting to advance the development of the first global convention on combating plastic pollution.

The dangers of plastic pollution are well known to the public, but the current actions taken are still insufficient to reverse or stop the plastic pollution crisis. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, global plastic production has increased from1950of the year200million tons soared2017of the year3.48billion tons. OECD data show that the global10%The plastic is recycled. High yields and low recycling rates mean that more and more plastic waste is entering the natural environment, threatening human health and global sustainability. Plastic pollution is also harmful to marine and aquatic life. The amount of plastic in the oceans is now1100million tons/Year.UNEPforecasts, if left unregulated,2040This figure will nearly triple (up2900million tons/year). And this pollution also affects human health: microplastics have been found in human blood, lungs, spleen, kidney tissue and even fetal tissue. The United Nations has recognized that the rapidly increasing levels of plastic pollution, including microplastics and marine plastics, pose a serious transboundary environmental problem.

2022Year3The 5th UN Environment Assembly unanimously adopted a historic resolution to end plastic pollution.:Ending Plastic Pollution: Towards an International Legally Binding InstrumentnamelySection5/14resolution). The Instrument aims to end plastic pollution and is a positive measure for global sustainable development. The Instrument is expected2024The relevant enterprise may take advantage of the legal effect of the year from now until the entry into force.2years to complete the shift to finding alternatives and technologies and reducing and avoiding the use of single-use plastics. The end of plastic pollution is not simply to eliminate plastic production, but through the promotion of sustainable production and consumption of plastics, appropriate disposal of waste plastics, strengthening international cooperation and other comprehensive ways, from the production, design and disposal of plastics throughout the life cycle to control, reduce plastic leakage and pollution.

5/14In the resolution, governments requested the United Nations Environment Programme to convene an international intergovernmental negotiation conference aimed at developing the following legally binding international instruments on plastic pollution (including plastic pollution in the marine environment) (ILBI). At the request of the resolution, before this international intergovernmental negotiation meeting,2022Year11Month26A stakeholder workshop on ending plastic pollution was held in Uruguay on Sunday. The seminar brought together hundreds of people from global civil society organizations, the private sector, government and academia, both live and online. To help peers understand the latest developments in global plastic pollution control,Yujie Industry now summarizes the results of the discussion at the meeting as follows:

The Forum held two round tables, a morning round table to stimulate stakeholder discussions on tackling plastic pollution in the plastic life cycle, focusing on three themes: elimination and design cycles, cycles in practice, waste minimization and remediation, and an afternoon round table to stimulate discussions on how to initiate a multi-stakeholder action agenda to move towards ending pollution through collective impact.

In the general presentation session, international organizations and other multi-stakeholders contribute to the global negotiations on plastic pollution..International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) emphasized that a global framework is needed to guide and help companies transition to a circular economy, especially in the design, use and reuse of plastics. The Business and Industry Major Group pointed out that business innovation is an effective way to solve the problem of plastic pollution. The UN Global Compact calls for recognition of the role of the private sector in future negotiations.

In the first round of dialogue, the American Chemistry Council'sStewart HarrisIt said that the petrochemical industry is working to achieve more recycling and end plastic waste in the environment; and expressed the opportunity to use plastic waste as an alternative raw material. The representative of the Global Garbage Scavengers Alliance noted that the world has2000More than 10,000 informal scavengers, calling for a fair transition and recognition of their work.NEXUS3The Foundation'sYuyun IsmawatiStresses that plastic is a combination of carbon and chemicals, and points out that in fact only9%The plastic is recycled, contrary to popular belief.

In the second round of dialogue, the World Bank'sAnjali AcharyaActing as moderator, the opening session pointed to the need to change collective behaviour to tackle plastic pollution. The Ocean FoundationErica? The role of civil society in creating momentum for the treaty and raising the voices of marginalized groups was highlighted; mandatory national programmes of action were called for, emphasizing that voluntary mechanisms had not yet yielded results; and attention was urged to compliance mechanisms. Nestle (NESTLé)Jodie RoussellSupport for limiting and reducing the production of virgin plastics; note efforts to redesign packaging for recycling; call for the establishment of mandatory sustainable packaging systems; and achieve conditions for reuse and refilling.

In the ensuing discussion, participants highlighted the need to: strike a balance between the ambition of public appeals and the pragmatic actions proposed by industry; ensure the accountability of the new treaty; address the plastic medical waste problem in low-income countries; urgently launch a strong public awareness strategy; and safeguard the interests of informal waste pickers. They also called for: the inclusion of indigenous peoples in the process; ensuring common global rules and standards for reducing plastic production; further stakeholder interactive dialogue throughout the Commission negotiation process; and a solid scientific basis to inform the negotiations. United Nations Environment Programme Executive DirectorIn his speech at the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee, Anuson emphasized: "This means working with the private sector, it means working with environmentalists, it means working with the community, and it means strong political leadership."DongguanYujieAsThe first in the Greater Bay Area.UL 2809Marine plastic certificationEnterprises, deeply aware of the urgency of plastic recycling, enterprises and other institutions to strengthen cooperation is essential.YujieHas developed a number of environmental protectionPCRMaterials. For example, the commonly used lunch boxes, shampoo bottles, mineral water bottles, washing machine barrels and other waste plastic, afterInnovationmodificationAfter canDo it with imports.International brands, the world's largest petrochemical plant production. The physical properties of the new material are the sameIt proves that plastic recycling has great potential and ending plastic pollution is no longer a dream..

The new direction of environmentally friendly plastics

Our earth is facing increasingly serious garbage pollution, we have produced more and more electronic products, plastic products. We are facing an increasingly serious disposal problem with the current level of technology and consistent disposal methods are waste incineration and landfill. The consequence of this is that serious dioxins and carbon dioxide will be produced. There is also a waste of resources, because plastic is decomposed by oil, and now Xinlei Plastic Technology Co., Ltd. specializes in environmental protection and the use of resources. Our company has professional polymer engineers and professional modification technology formula, can effectively recycle and modify the plastic nozzle, we can

New materials bring changes in mobile phones

The emergence and popularization of touch screens have gradually made us bid farewell to the years when we used physical keyboards to manipulate mobile phones. Today's trendy mobile phones cannot even find a physical keyboard on the main screen. The emergence of capacitive touch screens has even made mobile phones bid farewell to the standard stylus. We have begun to use one finger to click on two fingers to rotate and zoom to manipulate the screen. The influence of new materials on us is obvious. At this CES, several updated materials let us see the possibility of further changes in the way of interaction. The most exciting, naturally flexible electronic screen when the computer screen can be bent or even folded, what does it mean?
