New EU Packaging Regulations Favor Recycled Materials Market

The new EU packaging rules "packaging and packaging waste regulations" proposal has been in.2022Year11Month30officially released on the day. The primary purpose of the new regulations is to stop the growing problem of plastic packaging waste. The proposal will be considered by the Council of the European Parliament in accordance with the ordinary legislative procedure.

According to statistics, each European produces nearly180Kilograms of packaging waste. If no action is taken,2030The EU's packaging waste will further increase.19%Plastic packaging waste will even increase.46%.

The overall goal of the proposal is to reduce the negative impact of packaging and packaging waste on the environment, improve the operation of the internal market, thereby increasing the efficiency of the industry, create a well-functioning market for secondary raw materials (recycled materials), and pass the mandatory recycling ratio Target to increase the use of recycled plastics in packaging. Specifically:

1.The overall goal is2040year, and2018per capita reduction in packaging waste generated in each member country compared15%. to reduce overall waste in the EU by about37%. This will be achieved through reuse and recycling.

2.To promote in the past20With a sharp mid-year decline in packaging reuse or refill, companies must provide consumers with a certain percentage of products in reusable or refillable packaging, such as takeaway beverages and meals or e-commerce deliveries. In addition, some standardization work will be carried out on the packaging method and the clear identification of reusable packaging.

3.In order to solve the problem of apparently unnecessary packaging, certain forms of packaging will be banned, such as single-use packaging of food and beverages consumed in restaurants and cafes, single-use packaging of fruits and vegetables, micro-shampoo bottles and other micro-packaging in hotels.

4.Many measures aim2030Years make the packaging fully recyclable. This includes setting packaging design standards; establishing a mandatory deposit refund system for plastic bottles and aluminum cans; and clarifying which very limited packaging must be compostable so that consumers can throw it in biological waste.

5.In addition, the regulation also stipulates the minimum recycled content in recyclable packaging and plastic packaging. Producers must also include a mandatory ratio of recycled ingredients in new plastic packaging. The specific provisions are as follows:

For the minimum recycled content in plastic packaging, the regulations provide:

From 2030 Year1 Month1 Plastic parts in packaging should contain the following minimum percentages of recycled components recovered from post-consumer plastic waste per unit of packaging:

(a)Polyethylene terephthalate(PET)as the main ingredient of the contact-sensitive packaging30%;

(b)ForPETContact-sensitive packaging made of plastic materials other than disposable plastic beverage bottles, except10%;

(c)Disposable plastic beverage bottle30%;

(d)Except(a),(b)and(c)Outside the packaging mentioned in,35%.

From 2040 Year1 Month1 Plastic parts in packaging should contain the following minimum percentages of recycled components recovered from post-consumer plastic waste per unit of packaging:

(a)For contact sensitive plastic packaging50%, except for disposable plastic beverage bottles;

(b)Disposable plastic beverage bottle65%;

(c)Except(a)and(b)Point mentioned in the plastic packaging,65%;

The proposal on packaging and packaging waste will now be considered by the European Parliament and the Council in the ordinary legislative procedure. These measures also bring opportunities and challenges to China's plastics and packaging industry chain:

1.For Chinese companies with products in Europe, whether through direct investment or through trade, they need to upgrade their compliance requirements for packaging and material selection to meet the new proposal.?

2.For Chinese brand enterprises operating in Europe, it is necessary to change the packaging design from the source design to make it easy to recycle and reuse.

3.For Chinese material suppliers, it is necessary to speed up the research and development of green and low-carbon materials and open up more global markets in the context of sustainable development.

4.For China's recycling providers, we need to seize the opportunity to replicate China's mature and successful recycling experience to the European region, and promote a closed-loop resource cycle model between China and Europe.

5.All Chinese supply chain enterprises serving brand enterprises in Europe should upgrade their sustainable development, including establishing environmental impact assessment (especially carbon footprint) throughout the life cycle, improving energy efficiency and water efficiency management system, improving the whole process traceability system of material flow, and carrying outESGInformation disclosure management, etc. With the further implementation of the "European Green New Deal" and China's gradual move towards the dual-carbon goal, the dialogue between China and Europe on the development of a green and low-carbon cycle will also be strengthened, promoting exchanges between the two sides in industry, education and research, and increasing green investment and trade between China and Europe.

Professionals said that on the one hand, the EU introduced this regulation is due to the current environmental pressure.2017After China announced a ban on the entry of foreign waste and promoted the reform of the solid waste import management system, other countries in the world have followed suit. However, the European and American countries that originally exported these wastes have imperfect domestic plastic recycling industry chains.2019In the year, the plastic in the packaging is only5%from recycled materials. The EU's move is also to promote the development of its internal recycling industry and solve practical problems. On the other hand, this move is also due to the fact that the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine has pushed up the price of natural gas, and the plastic industry is also a high energy-consuming industry, which needs to be reduced. Shi Chuanjie, chairman of Yujie industry, a well-known environmental protection recycling material enterprise, said that China, as the world's largest production and supply area of recycled plastics, this law is beneficial to the domestic recycled plastics industry. Domestic enterprises should understand the relevant laws and regulations of the other country, because once the packaging does not conform to the contract, it will bear the economic losses caused by it. In developed countries in Europe and the United States, even individual food manufacturers due to packaging problems led to bankruptcy. In the current growing plastic pollution, Yujie industry has been committed to plastic recycling, for the ocean and all mankind to reduce plastic pollution. Yujie Industrial has passed.GRS,ULMarine plasticOBPEnvironmental protection material certification, traceability identification of the authenticity and compliance of post-consumer recycled plastics and their front-end raw materials, removing obstacles to entering the international market. It is everyone's responsibility to protect the earth! I hope everyone will take action to protect the environment.PCRRecycling of modified materials.

The new direction of environmentally friendly plastics

Our earth is facing increasingly serious garbage pollution, we have produced more and more electronic products, plastic products. We are facing an increasingly serious disposal problem with the current level of technology and consistent disposal methods are waste incineration and landfill. New materials bring changes in mobile phones

The emergence and popularization of touch screens have gradually made us bid farewell to the years when we used physical keyboards to manipulate mobile phones. Today's trendy mobile phones cannot even find a physical keyboard on the main screen. The emergence of capacitive touch screens has even made mobile phones bid farewell to the standard stylus. We have begun to use one finger to click on two fingers to rotate and zoom to manipulate the screen. The influence of new materials on us is obvious. At this CES, several updated materials let us see the possibility of further changes in the way of interaction.
